Cuento japonés - El gato que tuvo cien vidas

"EL GATO DE LAS CIEN VIDAS"

POR SANO YOOKO

ERASE UNA VEZ UN GATO QUE NO SE MURIO EN UN MILLON DE AÑOS. UN MILLON DE VECES MURIO Y UN MILLON DE VECES REVIVIO. ERA UN MAGNIFICO GATO. UN MILLON DE PERSONAS QUISIERON A ESE GATO Y UN MILLON DE PERSONAS LLORARON CUANDO GATO SE MURIO.

PERO GATO NO LLORO NI UNA SOLA VEZ...

UNA VEZ, GATO FUE GATO DE UN REY. A GATO NI LE GUSTABA EL REY. COMO EL REY ERA BUENO EN LA BATALLA SIEMPRE ESTABA EN LA GUERRA. PONIA A GATO EN UN HERMOSO COJIN Y LO LLEVABA A LA GUERRA. UN DIA, A GATO LE CAYO UNA FLECHA Y SE MURIO. EL REY, A MITAD DE LA BATALLA ABRAZO A GATO Y LLORO. EL REY DEJO LA GUERRA Y REGRESO AL CASTILLO. AHI, ENTERRO A GATO EN EL JARDIN.

UNA VEZ, GATO FUE EL GATO DE UN MARINERO. A GATO NI LE GUSTABA EL MARINERO. EL MARINERO LLEVABA A GATO A TODOS LOS PUERTOS Y MARES DEL MUNDO. UN DIA, GATO SE CAYO DEL BARCO. PERO GATO NO SABIA NADAR. EL MARINERO RAPIDAMENTE LANZO UNA RED PARA AYUDAR A GATO PERO TODO MOJADO YA SE HABIA MUERTO. EL MARINERO ABRAZO A GATO QUE ESTABA EMPAPADO COMO TRAPO, Y LLORO EN VOZ MUY ALTA. ENTONCES, EN UN LEJANO PUERTO ENTERRO A GATO BAJO UN ARBOL.

UNA VEZ, GATO FUE EL GATO DE UN MAGO DE CIRCO. A GATO NI LE GUSTABA EL CIRCO. TODOS LOS DIAS EL MAGO METIA A GATO EN UNA CAJA Y CON UN ZERUCCHO PARTIA A GATO A LA MITAD. LUEGO, SACABA A GATO DE UNA PIEZA DE LA CAJA Y TODOS APLAUDIAN. UN DIA, EL MAGO SE EQUIVOCO Y DE VERDAD PARTIO A GATO A LA MITAD. EL MAGO AGARRO A GATO PARTIDO EN DOS Y LLORO EN VOZ MUY ALTA. NADIE APLAUDIO. EL MAGO ENTERRO A GATO DETRAS DEL CIRCO.

UNA VEZ, GATO FUE EL GATO DE UN LADRON. A GATO NI LE GUSTABA EL LADRON. EL LADRON Y GATO RECORRIAN SIGILOSOS LA CIUDAD OSCURA DE NOCHE. EL LADRON SOLO ROBABA EN CASAS DONDE HABIA PERROS. MIENTRAS EL PERRO PERSEGUIA A GATO EL LADRON ASALTABA LA CAJA FUERTE. UN DIA, UN PERRO MATO A GATO. EL LADRON SE LLEVO A GATO Y EL DIAMANTE QUE HABIA ROBADO, LLORABA EN VOZ ALTA MIENTRAS CAMINABA EN LA OSCURIDAD. REGRESO A CASA Y ENTERRO A GATO EN EL JARDIN.

UNA VEZ, GATO FUE EL GATO DE UNA VIEJITA. A GATO NI LE GUSTABA LA VIEJITA. TODOS LOS DIAS LA VIEJITA CON GATO EN LAS RODILLAS MIRABA AFUERA DESDE UNA VENTANITA. GATO DORMIA TODOS LOS DIAS EN LAS RODILLAS DE LA VIEJITA. CON EL TIEMPO GATO SE HIZO VIEJO Y SE MURIO. LA VIEJITA ABRAZO A GATO VIEJITA Y LLORO TODO EL DIA. LA VIEJITA ENTERRO A GATO BAJO UN ARBOL DEL JARDIN.

UNA VEZ, GATO FUE EL GATO DE UNA NIÑA. A GATO NI LE GUSTABA LA NIÑA. LA NIÑA SIEMPRE CARGABA A GATO Y LO ABRAZABA CUANDO SE DORMIA. CUANDO LA NIÑA LLORABA, LAS LAGRIMAS LE CAIAN A GATO EN LA PANCITA. UN DIA MIENTRAS LA NIÑA LO CARGABA, GATO SE ENREDO UN CORDON EN EL CUELLO Y SE MURIO. LA NIÑA ABRAZO A GATO QUE TENIA LA CABEZA CHUECA Y LLORO TODO EL DIA. DESPUES ENTERRO A GATO DEBAJO DE UN ARBOL DEL JARDIN.

A GATO LE DABA LO MISMO MORIRSE.

UNA VEZ, GATO FUE EL GATO DE NADIE. ERA UN GATO CALLEJERO. POR PRIMERA VEZ, GATO FUE SU PROPIO GATO. Y EL SE GUSTABA MUCHO. COMO ERA UN MAGNIFICO GATO RAYADO, FUE UN MAGNIFICO GATO CALLEJERO.

TODAS LAS GATAS QUERIAN CASARSE CON GATO. UNA GATA LE DIO UN GRAN PESCADO, OTRA HASTA LE REGALO UN RATON DE AFRICA. OTRA GATA LE DIO UNA BOLA DE ESTAMBRE TRAIDA DE EGIPTO. OTRA GATA LO BAÑABA SIEMPRE. Y GATO DIJO: "YO YA MORI UN MILLON DE VECES. NI ME DA MIEDO LA MUERTE!" GATO SE QUERIA MAS QUE A NADIE.

PERO HABIA UNA HERMOSA GATA BLANCA QUE NISIQUIERA VOLTEABA A VER A GATO. GATO FUE CERCA DE LA GATA BLANCA Y DIJO: "YO YA MORI UN MILLON DE VECES".

PERO LA GATA BLANCA SOLO DIJO "AHA".

GATO SE ENOJO UN POQUITO.
DESPUES DE TODO, EL SE QUERIA MAS QUE A NADIE. Y AL DIA SIGUIENTE, Y AL SIGUIENTE GATO FUE CON LA GATA BLANCA Y LE DIJO LO MISMO. "TU NI TE HAS ACABADO UNA VIDA, VERDAD?".

PERO LA GATA BLANCA SOLO DIJO "AHA".

UN DIA GATO DIO MAROMETAS EN FRENTE DE LA GATA BLANCA Y DIJO: "TAMBIEN ESTUVE EN UN CIRCO".

PERO LA GATA BLANCA SOLO DIJO "AHA".

GATO EMPEZO A DECIR "YO YA MORI UN MILLON... "

Y LUEGO LE PREGUNTO A LA GATA BLANCA: ¿PUEDO ESTAR CONTIGO?.

LA GATA BLANCA DIJO "SI". DESPUES DE ESO GATO SIEMPRE ESTABA CON LA GATA BLANCA. LA GATA BLANCA TUVO MUCHOS GATITOS. GATO YA NI DECIA "YO YA MORI UN MILLON... "

..."Your hair wants cutting" said the Hatter. He had been looking at Alice for some time with great curiosity, and this was his first speech.
"You should learn not to make personal remarks" Alice said with some severity; "it’s very rude."
The Hatter opened his eyes very wide on hearing this; but all he SAID was, "Why is a raven like a writing-desk?"....
..."Have you guessed the riddle yet?" the Hatter said, turning to Alice again.
"No, I give it up," Alice replied. "What's the answer?"
"I haven't the slightest idea," said the Hatter.
"Nor I," said the March Hare.
Alice sighed wearily. "I think you might do something better with the time," she said, "than wasting it in asking riddles that have no answers." ...

"Enquiries have been so often addressed to me, as to whether any answer to the Hatter's Riddle can be imagined, that I may as well put on record here what seems to me to be a fairly appropriate answer, viz: 'Because it can produce a few notes, though they are very flat; and it is nevar put with the wrong end in front!' This, however, is merely an afterthought; the riddle as originally invented, had no answer at all." Note that "nevar" is "raven" "with the wrong end in front" (backwards).
